Atma Nirbhar Bharat is not just a word but it is a vision of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to enable India to overcome this difficult time during pandemic COVID-19 which is never seen before.

“Atma Nirbhar” which is a Hindi word in English which means “self-reliant” which also denotes less dependence on others or not being dependent on others. Atma Nirbhar Bharat is a term originally coined at the time of pandemic COVID-19 in India. It is indeed the vision of our Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to make India and Indians self-reliant by starting production of all essential commodities locally. India is dependent on imports from many countries around the world and pays a larger import bill than exports. All import and export activities across the world were halted at the time of the pandemic. Transportation on goods and services was stopped. It was very difficult then to live without resources as the import of goods was not possible due to the cessation of transport activities.

India faced problems in terms of shortage of hospital beds, PPE kits, COVID testing kits, medicines, ventilators and other essential respiratory and medical equipment, including basic supplies of hand sanitisers, N95 masks.

Meaning of self-reliant India

Self-reliant India really means that we are able to produce products indigenously, which we need and ultimately play a big role in the global economy by exporting surplus products. This was the real vision of self-reliant India.

The impact of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan can be seen that from zero production of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits before March 2020, today India has created a capacity to locally produce more than 2 lakh PPE kits per day and it continues to do so. is growing. Earlier India uses imported PPE kits and gives a lot of money in return.

India has also developed its own COVID testing kits and trials of several vaccines are in the final stages. In some ways the self-reliant India campaign is a reinforcement of Make in India. The Defense Ministry is now also emphasizing on indigenous production of weapons.
