National Sports Day : About Major Dhyan Chand

Major Dhyan Chand was born on 29 August 1905 in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. He was born in a Rajput family. His childhood name was Dhyan Singh. His father's name was Sameshwar Singh, who was working as a Subedar in the British Army. Awards and achievements of Major Dhyanchand are listed below :- 

1928 - Gold Medal - Olympics in Amsterdam

1932 - Gold Medal - Olympics in Los Angeles

1936 - Gold Medal - Olympics in Berlin

1956 - Padma Bhushan - Govt. Of India

In view of the contribution of Major Dhyan Chand in hockey, recently the Government of India has renamed India's highest sports award Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award.
